In a stunning surprise, the Nobel Committee announced Friday that it had awarded its annual peace prize to President Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” less than nine months after he took office. Congratulations, Mr. Obama… : )

Chen Wenling’s Bernie Madoff inspired Art is EPIC!

By: Johanna V.

The latest Bernie Madoff-inspired art was displayed at a Beijing art gallery on Sunday.

“What You see Might Not Be Real,” by Chen Wenling depicts the Ponzi schemer as a devil, horns and all. The bull, which represents Wall Street, is farting because in Chinese “放屁” (fang pi) literally means to fart, but in slang means to bluff or lie.

Nas’s open letter to Young Warriors of Chicago

Words can’t even explain how I felt when I first read this story and saw the video.  I honestly cried because this story is so reminiscent of the day my close friend was murdered for absolutely no reason 8 years ago.  I don’t understand how in this day and age, people are still committing random acts of violence.  This young man was an honor student and simply trying to protect his peers… he didn’t deserve to die.

I believe it is our responsibility to teach our youth that violence is NEVER the answer. This is such a tragedy but hopefully his death is not in vain and will motivate the youth to refrain from violence and find other methods for settling their differences.

May God bless Derrion Albert and his family.

Nas’s open letter to Young Warriors of Chicago:

Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong wars! Killing each other is definitely played out. Being hurt from the lost of a love one was never cool.

Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong war! I know that feeling, that frustration with life and needing to take it out on someone, any one. But….

We chose the dumbest things to go the hardest for. I remember seeing deaths over 8 ball jackets, Fila sneakers, and name plate chains. Deaths over “he say, she say”!!!!! “I’m from this block or I’m from that block”, or “my moms n pops is f*cked up now the whole world gotta pay”!!!

I remember feeling like I was the hardest “n*gga” breathing. And I couldn’t wait to prove it. But let’s think. What are we really proving?? And proving what to who?? Everybody knows Chicago breeds the strongest of the strong but I just feel, me, being ya brother from another state feels your pain as if I grew up with you in ya very own household.

You have the ability and mindpower to change they way we are looked at. Look who’s watching us young warriors, look who’s throwing us in jail constantly, look at the ignorance in the world. Look at the racist dogs who love to see us down. Loving to bury us in the ground or in jail where we continue this worthless war on one another.

Young warriors…. We are WASTING more and more time. We gotta get on our jobs and take over the world. Cuz this movie left the theaters years ago, Juice, Menace, Boys n the Hood , Blood n Blood Out, Belly!

When we see each other why do we see hatred? Why were we born in a storm, born soldiers, WARRIORS….and instead of building each other up we are at war with each other.. May the soul of this young person find peace with the almighty. I’m with you young warriors. You’re me and I’m you. But trust me! you are fighting the wrong war.

This sh*t sucks !!

President Obama’s thoughts on Kanye.…

By: Johanna Vizueta

By now, we are all tired of hearing about Ye and his VMA drama. However, it seems like everyday there is more fuel being added to this fire and I personally do not feel it’s fair to him. President Obama called him a jackass OFF THE RECORD, meaning that it should have NEVER been released to the public! We are all human beings and we all make mistakes. Madonna made a great point at the VMA’s when she spoke about MJ and how everyone shunned him in his darkest hour instead of being more supportive. We’ve lost too much talent this year already, let’s not push Yeezy over the edge people. I believe Kanye is truly sorry for his actions and he is doing the right thing by taking time off. Despite all this drama, I’m still a fan and will continue to support him.

A Day Never to be Forgotten: 9/11 in Honor of a Resilient Remembrance of Tears & Bravery

By: Pianca Pink

we-will-never-forget-9-11

To think it has been 8 years since the tragic day that  most of all our lives were changed forever. I remember the sadness in my heart when I woke up to the news of the attacks on the Twin Towers, that my heart couldn’t bare and I just had to let out a cry for those people. I just wanted to console and reach out to everyone I loved and those most affected. The whole city came together that day and since then as brought us together where  even in our slumber/ economic recession, we still stand strong! My prayers and condolences go out to the families, friends and children that lost their loved ones, you will never be forgotten. To the brave NYC Firemen & Port Authority Officers that embodied courage that day by going up those flaming stairs to save people, you will never be forgotten. Empire State stand, together let’s us all stand tall. God Bless : )

We will NEVER forget! R.I.P., World Trades Centers…

The man known as the “liberal lion of the Senate” had fought a more than year-long battle with brain cancer, and according to his son had lived longer with the disease than his doctors expected him to.

“We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever,” the Kennedy family said in a statement. “He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it.”

Sen. Edward Moore Kennedy, the youngest Kennedy brother who was left to head the family’s political dynasty after his brothers President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy were assassinated.

Kennedy championed health care reform, working wages and equal rights in his storied career. In August, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor — by President Obama. His daughter, Kara Kennedy, accepted the award on his behalf. {Courtesy of ABC.com]

World Minute: Sotomayor Get’s it, Lisa Ling & Euna Lee Arrive, RIP –John Hughes, Fannie Mae Loses it!

By: Pianca Pink.

06sotomayor_480

Judge Sonia Sotomayor, who rose from the housing projects of the Bronx to the top of the legal profession, made history Thursday when the Senate confirmed her to become the nation’s first Hispanic Supreme Court justice. Sotomayor was easily confirmed in a 68 – 31 vote. Nine Republicans joined a unanimous Democratic caucus in supporting her nomination. [Via CNN.com] <— As you all know, I have had a little obsession over Mrs.Sotomayor… I have been following these proceedings like if it were my favorite soap opera. Truth is that I completely respect this woman and while, I like I mention before don’t agree with all her view points, she is definitely on my “want to meet on day list”. Congratulations, Your Highest Honor! : )

Laura Ling arrives home

More good, news… This story made my WEEK! Laura Ling and her colleague Euna Lee, both working for California-based Current TV, were arrested in March while reporting from the border between North Korea and China. They were sentenced in June to 12 years of hard labor on charges of entering the country illegally to conduct a smear campaign. After months of isolation the two journalists arrived home Wednesday after former President Bill Clinton journeyed to North Korea at the behest of the women’s families and former Vice President Al Gore, who co-founded Current TV. The reclusive communist nation pardoned the two women and released them to Clinton. Thank you, Clinton for saving the day! : )

Another note, which is very sad… John Hughes, the producer, writer and director whose 1980s films such as “Sixteen Candles,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” offered a sharp-eyed look at teenagers and their social habits, has died, according to a statement from his representative. He was 59 and die of a heart attack in his Manhattan home. [via CNN.com]

Fannie Mae will need another 10.7 BILLION dollars in federal aid. I don’t know about you, but just when I thought we were making strides to jump free of the recession, there comes another hand out! The American economy (and arguably, by extension, the global economy) has relied to heavily on lending. On the business side of things, it seemed that profits just get eaten up and no one is accountable. With Main Street America, it seemed that people did not have the foresight to realize that their jobs won’t last forever, and that it is unwise to plan on spending every dime you have as opposed to saving a significant portion of your income. Had people not forgotten this, perhaps we would never have gotten into this mess in the first place. So far as inflating prices of consumer goods, services and housing (etc), we vote on how expensive something should be every time we make a purchase. <— This was a state of emotion rant!
